Message from Emma Revie reflecting on lobby day

30th June 2025

It’s been just over a week since lobby day, and I am still absolutely bursting with pride. The incredible atmosphere and sound of all our voices together continues to ring in my ears – the fact that MPs could hear our lobbying in Westminster Hall from the chamber of the House of Commons is testament to how far our voices can carry when we stand together.

Thank you so, so much to each and every one of you who made the extraordinary effort to be part of this historical day in Westminster. For persevering through early starts and long days to create what was a truly monumental statement. Using your voices, you brought our mission to life in a space and at a time where it could not be more important. And we know that your voices were heard over and over again as we sent our elected officials back into the chamber with a deeper understanding of the important decisions that lie ahead of them. I have never experienced anything like it and am so grateful that I had the opportunity to stand alongside you.

And to those of you who were there with us in spirit but stayed behind to keep food bank doors open and free up others from your food bank community to join us: thank you – we couldn’t have done it without you. I know that many of you who couldn’t make it on the day have also been lobbying your elected representatives in your own constituencies over many months and years and for that, we’re so grateful.

Throughout the day, over 500 people from all nations and regions of the UK, joined by lived experience partners, lobbied 230 MPs from 12 different political parties. Over 230 organisations were involved on the day; in the true spirit of partnership, we greeted each other as friends and lobbied as one. And we were also joined by Pod Save The UK, helping to amplify our voice even more – watch and listen here (from 22:50). We achieved so much together, and the anticipation and positivity which built throughout the day will wholeheartedly fuel our next steps for the Guarantee Our Essentials campaign.

In the meantime, the conversation continues. There’s still time to ask friends, family and your local partners and networks to email their MP and ask them to vote against proposed cuts to disabled people’s social security, that we know will force disabled people into severe hardship. If enough MPs vote against it, we can stop this bill from becoming law and show the UK government why they need to make our social security system fit for purpose.

Together we have such strength. Whether you were able to join lobby day or not, I remain forever inspired by, and grateful for, your commitment and determination to work towards a UK where no one needs a food bank to survive. Thank you.
